A new Trippie Redd emerges.

It’s been nearly a year since the release of A Love Letter 3, Ohio rapper Trippie Redd’s last project. Today, he shares his first album of the year, !. It includes high-profile features like Lil BabyThe GamePlayboi Carti, Lil Duke, and his girlfriend Coi LerayMurda BeatzWheezyBenjamin Lasnier, and plenty others contribute to the production side.

The pre-release singles for the album include “Under Enemy Arms and “Mac 10.” It serves as a follow-up to Trippie’s debut album, LIFE’S A TRIP, and his 2019 project A Love Letter To You 3.

When Trippie Redd announced the album, fans drew connections to the title of XXXTentacion’s debut album, ? Trippie later confirmed that the album was in memory of the late Florida artist. In the past, the two have feuded but put their beef aside long before X’s passing.

In this new project, Trippie Redd continues to explore the creative boundaries of music. Content-wise, Trippie Redd focuses on heavy lyrics that push messages born from experience.   The songs on “!” discuss things such as suicide, self-love and, overcoming adversity.

“That’s the whole concept of it, stay away from suicide. Don’t worry about what other people say, you could be doing what they’re doing or even better than them. It’s just living life and knowing how to overcome shit.”

Trippie says to Billboard.

The Trippie Redd that shows up on ! is a much different artist than who he was on Life’s a Trip. On the 14-track project, the rapper experiments not only vocally but musically as he taps R&B and jazz influences on a few of his productions.

A few of Trippie’s longtime fans have already expressed their displeasure with !, mostly because it doesn’t sound like all of the other music he’s previously released. However, ! shows that the 20-year-old is open to evolving as an artist, something that may other rappers who began their careers on Soundcloud refuse to acknowledge.
