It’s all about politics this week. Here we go with all you have to know from the past seven days.
Donal Trump was advised to let A$ap Rocky get sentenced and ‘play the racism card’.
Why is this not even a bit shocking to us?
President Trump’s impeachment investigation is bringing more to light about his involvement in A$AP Rocky’s assault case in Sweden.
According to a The New York Times report published on Friday (Nov. 15), an official for the United States Embassy in Kiev, Ukraine, David Holmes, testified that Trump spoke with Gordon D. Sondland, American ambassador to the European Union, about how to handle the situation.
In Holmes’ testimony, he reportedly divulged a conversation he overheard Sondland and Trump having on the phone. During the talk, Sondland reportedly told the president the rapper “should have pled guilty.” The ambassador then advised Trump that he should “let [Rocky] get sentenced, play the racism card, give him a ticker-tape when he comes home,” Holmes revealed in testimony.
According to Holmes, Sondland told Trump Sweden “should have released [Rocky] on your word.” More important to national security, Holmes also claimed Trump talked with Sondland about getting Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former vice president Joe Biden.
Akon wants to run for president against Kanye West in 2024.
I mean, why?
On Monday (Nov. 18), Akon stopped by The Real to speak about his contribution to African countries, his music career and more. The singer talked about the prospect of running for president and his thoughts on Kanye’s bid to be POTUS.
“Well I don’t think it would be a competition, I honestly need him to run. I want him to run” explains Akon, who notes that he’s aware of his immigrant status preventing him from running for office.
The El Negreeto artist continues by denouncing the idea that Kanye’s lost his mind.
“Kanye is not crazy, he’s just be awakened. From a spiritual state, I just feel like he’s awake now. Now he’s the most amazing marketer in the world. He understands his audience, but he’s definitely not crazy, he knows what he’s doing. My thing is, if he does run, it’s great for the culture. Now if you think he’s not fit, that’s another thing, that’s why you got me as another choice.”
Akon’s comments come a few weeks after Kanye reiterated his plans to run for president. Kanye has been teasing his run for president for a few years now, but it seems the rapper is more serious than ever.
Berni Sanders uses Young Thug’s ‘Pick Up The Phone’ for his campaign.
This is amazing!
During his campaign rally at Morehouse College in Atlanta on Thursday (Nov. 21), Bernie Sanders was introduced to the sounds of Young Thug, Travis Scott and Quavo’s hit ‘Pick Up the Phone’. The Democratic presidential candidate took the stage to roar applause from the crowd, who held up campaign signs as Thug’s verse played throughout Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel Plaza.
‘Pick Up the Phone’ originally appeared as a bonus track on Thug’s 2016 mixtape Jeffrey and later on Scott’s sophomore album Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight.
The Vermont senator has been popular with celebrities including Ariana Grande. On Tuesday, Sanders showed up at the pop superstar’s Sweetener World Tour in Atlanta. Grande called Sanders “my guy” and shared photos of the two hugging backstage. In July, Cardi B sat down with Sanders for a campaign video aimed at encouraging young voters. They discussed issues including police brutality, immigration, student debt, healthcare, wages, and more.
