Burna Boy has offered his remarkable take of Afrofusion for NPR‘s Tiny Desk Concert series. The 28-year-old pioneer serenaded the office space with tracks like ‘Gbona’, ‘Wetin Man Go Do’ and ‘Dangote’ from July 2019’s African Giant, along with a rendition of “Ye” from his third studio album, Outside.

It’s a remarkably smooth performance, small enough to match the setting but with music too vibrant to be easily confined to one genre or expression of energy.

“[Afrofusion is] real, whether you understand what I’m saying or not, your soul is going to stand up. Everything comes back to the root and the root is so important; everything comes back to the beginning. Music started with drums, to announce childbirth, the coming of the king, trouble in the land or something. That’s where the music started, that soul is always going to be there. So whether you understand it or not, it’s here to speak to you.”

he said in a recent interview with HYPEBEAST. Watch Burna Boy’s NPR Tiny Desk appearance above.
